How to Apply for a Scholarship

To inquire about scholarships, please email with the subject line “Summer Camp Scholarship,” and the weeks that you are interested in. You’ll receive information about eligibility and further instructions. Please wait until scholarship process is complete before registering for desired camp sessions. We have reserved spaces for those receiving scholarships.

Friendly House Summer Camp is divided into two age groups for younger and older campers.

The decision to split our camps was based on feedback from our campers and their caregivers and was wildly successful last summer. Dividing Summer Camp into two age groups allows us to offer activities better geared towards your child’s interests and abilities. Our camps for younger kids will remain highly structured, while sessions for our older kids will have more opportunities for making decisions about their excursions, more walking and public transportation trips, interactive games and group activities. They will also have more “hang out” time with their peers, playing ping pong, listening to music, and spending time together. Descriptions below are geared toward students heading into 1st–4th grade, while the 5th & 6th grade experience will foster independence with supervised visits to local parks, shops, and food carts. Older campers will occasionally join our younger campers for special activities, which are listed below. Example of 5th & 6th-grade excursions include include: Lovejoy Fountain Park | Food Carts | Multnomah CountyLibrary | Forest Park | Hoyt Arboretum | Jamison Square Fountain | Record Shopping at Everyday Music | Couch Park | and more!

Session 1 (June 15–19): Let’s Take This Outside
Outdoor School with World Forestry Center
If you love friendly forest adventures, join us for a week of environmental science and the great outdoors. As we look at our ecosystem, nature will be the inspiration behind activities that help explain what’s going on above our heads, beneath our feet, and all around us. A visit to the World Forestry Center will complete our experience!

Cost: $290 | Before/After Care: $30 each

Session 2 (June 22–26): Science in Action
ScienceTellers: Interactive Science & Storytelling
It’s in our kitchen, our gardens, the playground… and everywhere! This week, science will be the star of an interactive adventure story by ScienceTellers that features dry ice effects and more surprises. Let’s get experimental and join the fun! Older kids will also participate!

Cost: $290 | Before/After Care: $30 each

Session 3 (June 29–July 2): Short Week, Big fun!
Meet the Belmont Goats & Spencer Sprocket
Curiosity, agility, and comedy! We’ll visit the famous Belmont Goats and learn what makes these animals so interesting. Did you know that a goat giving birth is “kidding?” No, seriously! And speaking of high-energy entertainment, we’ll be joined again by Spencer Sprocket: the Everything Entertainer, who will captivate us with balloon-making, juggling, and some serious silliness. Older kids will also participate!

Cost: $235 | Before/After Care: $25 each

Session 4 (July 6–17): Swim, Swam, Swum pt. 1
Session 5 (July 20–31): Swim, Swam, Swum pt. 2
Swim with Portland Parks & Recreation and Open Swim
Every summer, our campers look forward to going swimming every day at the pool and park! With lessons through Portland Parks & Recreation and Open Swim every week, you can count on fun and important water experience whether you come for one session or both. Exhausted campers will have the opportunity to participate in craft projects and games to finish out each day. Older campers will have swim
lessons, too!

Cost: $675 | Before/After Care: $60 each

Session 6 (Aug. 3–7): Work Hard, Play Harder
Competitive Fire, Cooperative Spirit: Sports & Games
Do you have the passion and the drive? Sports and exercise are our focus, and we plan to work hard and play harder. Come ready to learn some new games, support your teammates, and sweat it out with maximum effort!

Cost: $290 | Before/After Care: $30 each

Session 7 (Aug. 10–14): The Rhythm is Gonna Get You!
Sound and Color with Portland Percussionists
You’ve been warned! Once you meet Russ Kleiner and Chris Whyte, you won’t be able to resist the rhythm. Russ is a professional drummer, percussionist, and educator who also leads a marimba band, and Chris is a professional percussionist and founding member of Portland Percussion Group. They will be our guides as we explore sound and rhythm. Older kids will also participate!

Cost: $290 | Before/After Care: $30 each

Session 8 (Aug. 17–21): What’s In That Box?!
Live Reptiles with Mr. Lizard’s Mobile Zoo
Here’s your chance to get up close and personal with the tails and scales of our cold-blooded friends! Mr. Lizard will bring the Mobile Zoo to us as we learn about our live guests and put our fears to rest.
