Monday, March 25th: “Whale Song”

In-House Field Trip: OMSI “Amazing Whales” Assembly 12:00-2:00pm

Join us for a fun-filled day of learning about ocean stewardship, the environmental adaptations of whales, mammal classifications and the essential role these amazing creatures play in their unique ecosystem. Our friends from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry will be putting on an assembly including a tour through the inside of a giant, blow-up whale and interactive activities involving real whale artifacts!

 

Tuesday, March 26th: “Tigers and Tea Gardens”

Field Trips: Portland Japanese Garden (3rd–5th) 11:30am-3:30pm, Oregon Zoo (K–2nd) 9:30am-3:30pm

Come enjoy the serene beauty and astounding wildlife of Washington Park! 3rd–5th graders will experience a special tour of the cherry blossoms, koi ponds, Zen gardens and teahouses of the Portland Japanese Gardens while K-2nd graders swoon over the chill cheetahs, elegant elephants and mischievous monkeys at the Oregon Zoo! Back at Friendly House, we will continue to explore environmental education principals and practice fostering cultural appreciation.

 

Wednesday, March 27th: “H2Awesome”

Field Trip: Mount Scott Pool 12:00-5:00pm

Join us for a day of liquid delight at Mt. Scott Pool as we slip down the water slide, float in the lazy river and play like penguins in the shallow end! Back at Friendly House we will perform aquatic experiments and generally enjoy that warm, tired, refreshed feeling after a day in the water.

 

Thursday, March 28th:The Story of a Shoe”

Field Trip: Portland Art Museum 10:15am-2:00pm

Enjoy a day of artistic expression as Friendly House ventures into the world of narrative art. Students will gain lifelong literacy skills, hear the extraordinary tales of ordinary objects, and practice self-expression through art and storytelling. In-house, students will participate in various art activities including watercolor painting and tiny book-making.

 

Friday, March 29th:The Food of the Forest”

Field Trip: Forest Park 12:00-3:00pm

Join Friendly House as we head into the woods for an enchanting day amidst the tranquil streams, lush trails and wooded glens of Forest Park! We will visit the old Stone House and do some fun plant-identification projects. We will also discuss the history of some famous Portland parks and create culinary ensembles inspired by forest-grown foods!
