After School Program
After School Registration for 2016-17 – is now open! Click here to sign up online now! We have openings in all grades, kindergarten to fifth grade, for students enrolled at Chapman Elementary School, full and part time schedules! Paper registration forms are available at the Friendly House front desk.
Our program is a full service after-school program (formerly called “Friendly Chaps”) designed to meet the Chapman School Community’s need for high-quality, affordable school-age care. With our sliding fee scale and scholarship opportunities, we create an inclusive environment for enrichment, recreation, and social development. In the summer, After School becomes Summer Camp, a theme-based day camp for families from throughout the Portland metro area.
What We Do
This program engages children in age-appropriate enrichment activities such as art, science, homework help, sports, field trips, and free-choice time. Children also have the opportunity to participate in clubs like Photography, Theater, Gardening, and Music, usually at no additional cost for families. Our program has a 12:1 child to teacher ratio. The program and its qualified and dedicated staff are certified by the Child Care Division of Oregon’s Employment Department.
What They Say
“Friendly House has been part of our family for 5 years now. As working parents, we are grateful to have a safe spot for our children that meets our standards for care and still delights and stimulates our kids. When we pick them up in the evening, they usually try to bargain to stay longer. The staff is very interactive and supportive and communicates well with parents about what goes on while we are away. I feel our kids have thrived in this environment in large part because of the thoughtful care the staff gives to program and to everyday interaction.” -Martha C.
“Both of my children attend the Friendly House After School program, and have for several years. Friendly House offers children creative, fun, social learning opportunities. The staff is wonderful, truly cares about the children in the program, and is focused on creating a safe, stimulating and positive environment. I have, and will continue to recommend this excellent program to other parents looking for quality care for their children!” -Cathy S.
Monday through Friday 7am – 8am and 2:15pm – 6pm
After School is open before school, after school, and on some school closure days. For the 2016-17 school year, we will be open for winter and spring break, for an additional fee, and offering winter and spring break “camps” by the day.
